REGISTRATION FOR SCITUATE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS
Academic Year Cycle​
WINTER 2023 PROGRAMS: 

Circle of Friends (Pre-school), begins February 14th, 12 sessions 

This program provides a small group setting for students to develop social thinking and language to enhance their play and conversational skills.  Through interactive play and small group activities, children build their skills in communicating, sharing and problem-solving. The optimal teacher-child ratio promotes opportunities for children to learn through structured play and facilitated conversations. Children will be encouraged to express themselves, both verbally and through art/journals. Children will practice identifying expected and unexpected behavior in groups by role playing and using puppets.  Some examples of expected behaviors that will be focused on during the session include; listening to others, taking turns and participating appropriately in group settings.  This class is geared toward 4-5 year olds; 3 year olds will be considered if space is available.  Students must be independently toilet trained.

There is a $25 late registration fee for any forms received after June 4

Financial Assistance is Available

 

Programs are open to ALL Scituate students, unless designated, and are staffed appropriately so that children with special needs can successfully participate in them.  

 

Programs are for the “ENTERING” Grade for the Fall.

 

For each program, we have identified highly qualified SPS staff and aide support to provide a low staff to student ratio (usually 1:3 for social groups and 1:4 for academic courses) to assure the highest quality of programming for our students.

 

For 2021, these programs have been generously supported by grant funding received from the Harold Brooks Trust, Evan Henry Foundation, South Shore Playhouse Associates, Doug Flutie Foundation as well as our community fundraising supporters.  

 

SUNSHINE ADVENTURERS

(Pre-school-Kindergarten)

PLEASE NOTE: PROGRAM RUNS MONDAY–FRIDAY, AUGUST 15-19, 3 HOURS EACH DAY

The main focus of this one-week program is to have FUN while fostering social interactions in a highly motivating peer environment.   This integrated program is open to children of all abilities to have an enjoyable summer experience involving social activities and field trips. Social development skills are practiced and reinforced, and team-building is continually fostered.

BEST BUDDIES FIELD TRIP

 

Grades K-2 Best Buddies Field Trip Fridays (open to all schools) July 8,15,22,29 & August 5

Hang with your buddies, have fun on great Friday trips!

This exciting program will provide students with social community outings in a lively, inclusive, and fun atmosphere.  These social activities and field trips will help foster and facilitate meaningful interactions between students and promote friend-to-friend connections while developing social skills.  Field trips are at age-appropriate favorite summer destinations.

READING AND WRITING ENRICHMENT

Reading and Writing Enrichment Plus Summer ELA Packet!  (Grades 3-5: open to all schools)  July 8,15,22,29 &

August 5

Summer Reading fun!  Students will work together in small groups to strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills.  A reading novel will be chosen for the students that is appropriate toward completing part of their summer ELA assignment; some reading will still need to be completed at home. We will read together in small groups and focus on a different literary theme each week.  In addition, we will use portions of the district’s writing curriculum that relates to the summer reading assignments.

NEW PROGRAM!

Music in Motion (Grades K-5: open to all schools) 

A class for students who have interest in art and music. Different genres of art and music will be explored in the calm and comfortable setting of the Jenkins art room. This class is geared for students of all ages and abilities. The goal is to engage kids’ in hand on experiences that are not occurring in front of screen. Students will be encouraged to engage with one another at their own comfort level and build confidence in their ability to work on independent projects while fostering some peer relationships outside of school.

Maximum Students =20 per class

ELEMENTARY BEST BUDDIES

 

Best Buddies provides strong peer mentor and social thinking training opportunities and social activities for ALL students to participate!  

After-school Tuesdays 4:00 -5:00 pm

 

  • This year we are ONLY registering via email to assure equitable enrollment via email time stamps.

  • Please email programregistration@corsefoundation.org with the following mandatory student information:  

     Parent Name and Cell

     Student Name

     Student School    

     Student Grade 

     Student Cohort or Full Day (if Gates student)

     IEP/504/DCAP or None

  • This information must be provided for each child you are registering. There is a MAXIMUM OF 3 CHILDREN PER EMAIL allowed.  If you have more than 3 children, please send a second email to assure equitable enrollment.  You can send 1 email for both programs. 

  • Once CORSE receives your email, you will receive a follow-up email with the registration link to fully enroll your child OR notification that you have been placed on the wait list.  If you receive the link, you have 3 days to enroll your child.  If CORSE does not receive this registration within that time, your child's slot will be filled with a wait-listed student.   

Best Buddies MUST follow SPS COVID guidelines and restrictions with lower maximum enrollments and assigned seating.  All activities will remain on-site and students must have the abilities to understand and follow directions and independently wear a mask for the duration of the program. 

 

Selected Best Buddies are expected to commit to ALL sessions, attendance is mandatory for continued participation in the program.  There are a set number of slots reserved for students who receive Special Education services.

 

Elementary Best Buddies Grade K-2: open to all schools

Unfortunately, we no longer accept out-of-town registrations for Scituate Public Schools' academic and social development programs, except for students tuitioned into SPS or Scituate students who are enrolled out of district.

Programs will follow all SPS COVID guidelines
